      1999 - 2003 Lexus RX 300, & 1995 - 2000 Hyundai Vehicles Remote Programming Instructions (Select Models)

      Instructions for Models: 1995-1998 Hyundai Accent, 1996-1999 Hyundai Elantra, 1994-1999 Hyundai Sonata, 1997-2000 Hyundai Tiburon, 1999-2003 Lexus RX 300

      NOTE: The remote keyless entry system is equipped with two (2) remotes, having two (2) unique vehicle access codes programmed into the wireless door lock.

      NOTE: ECU MODES OF REGISTRATION (programming the Remote)

      There are four (4) registration modes:

      1. Add Mode Adds a remote (remote) without erasing existing remote codes. Four remote codes can be registered at one time. If the number of registered codes exceeds 4, previously registered codes are erased in order, starting with the first registered code.
      2. Rewrite Mode: Erases all previously registered remote codes and program new remotes.
      3. Confirmation Mode: Informs users of the number of existing remote codes already programmed in the system.
      4. Prohibition Mode: Erases all existing registered remote codes and cancels wireless door lock operation. Use this function if the remote is lost or stolen.

      REGISTRATION OF RECOGNITION CODE

      1. To begin Programming, remove the key from the ignition switch. Ensure the driver's door is open and unlocked, and all other doors are closed. Insert the key into the ignition switch, and then remove it.
      2. Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: press the door lock switch (the one that controls all the locks) to LOCK position, and then within one second, press the door lock switch to UNLOCK position. Repeat the procedure continuously until door locks have been locked and unlocked 5 times. Close, and then open the driver's door.
      3. Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: repeat procedure in step 2, except for closing and opening the driver's door. Insert the key into the ignition switch. To enter desired mode, turn the ignition switch to ON position and back to LOCK position (one cycle), within one second, the specified number of times. See Registration Mode Selection table below.
      4. Remove the key from the ignition switch. Registration of confirmation code is complete after the door locks cycle. Be sure to continue as below.

      REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION:

      Mode No. of Ignition Switch Cycles:

      Add = 1

      Rewrite = 2

      Confirmation = 3

      Prohibition = 5

      NOTE: If any mode, other than confirmation mode is selected, go to the next step. If confirmation mode was selected, door locks will cycle 0-4 times depending on how many remote codes are stored in the ECU. 

      1. Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: if add mode, rewrite mode or prohibition mode is selected, to confirm proper initiation, door locks will automatically cycle one time for add mode (at the end of step 3), 2 times for rewrite mode and 5 times for prohibition mode. Press remote LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 1-5 seconds, and then within 3 seconds, press any remote button for at least one second.
      2. If within 3 seconds, door locks cycle one time, the new remote code has been successfully accepted. Go to the next step. If the door locks cycle 2 times, the new remote code was not accepted. To program an additional remote or to make a second attempt, return to step 5 within 40 seconds.

      Registration of recognition codes is complete under any of the following conditions:

      1. Forty seconds have elapsed since the wireless door lock ECU has responded.
      2. Driver's door is closed.
      3. Key is inserted into the ignition key cylinder.
      4. Four recognition codes are registered at one time.
