2011 - 2013 Chevrolet Volt Remote Programming Instructions
NOTE: Only RKE remotes programmed to this vehicle will work. If a remote is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased and programmed through your dealer. When the replacement remote is programmed to this vehicle, all remaining remotes must also be reprogrammed. Any lost or stolen remotes will no longer work once the new remote is programmed. Each vehicle can have up to five remotes matched to it. A new remote can be programmed into the vehicle when there is one recognized remote. For vehicles sold in Canada, two recognized remotes are required to program a new remote. To program the vehicle must be off, and all of the remotes both currently recognized, and now must be in the vehicle.
Programming with recognized remotes.
- Place the recognized remote(s) in the cupholder.
- Insert the vehicle key of the new remote into the key lock cylinder on the outside of the driver door and turn the key to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays "Ready for remote #2, 3, 4 or 5".
- Remove the rubber mat in the instrument panel storage. Extend the key blade on the new remote and insert the key blade into the remote slot.
- Press and hold the power button on the center stack for two seconds. When the remote is programmed, the DIC will show that it is ready to program the next remote.
- Remove the remote from the remote slot and press unlock on the remote.
NOTE: To program additional remotes, repeat steps 3 through 5. When all additional remotes are programmed, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to exit programming mode.
Programming without a recognized remote.
NOTE: Non-Canadian (U.S.) owners are permitted to program a new remote to their vehicle when a recognized remote is not available. Canadian regulations require that Canadian owners see their dealer for programming new remotes when two recognized remotes are not available. The vehicle must be off and all of the remotes must be in the vehicle.
- Insert the vehicle key of the remote into the key lock cylinder on the outside of the driver door and turn the key to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays "Remote learn pending, please wait".
- Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays "Press start button to learn" and then press the power button on the center stack. The DIC display will again show "Remote learn pending, please wait".
- Repeat step 2 two more times. After the third time, all previously known remotes will no longer work with the vehicle. The remaining remotes can be programmed during the next steps. The DIC display should now show "Ready for remote #1".
- Remove the rubber mat in the instrument panel storage. Extend the key blade on the new remote and insert the key blade into the remote slot.
- Press and hold the power button for two seconds. When the remote is programmed, the DIC will show that it is ready to program the next remote.
- Remove the remote from the remote slot and press unlock on the remote.
NOTE: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 4 through 6. When all additional remotes are programmed, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to exit programming mode.
