Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep Smart Simple™ Key and EZ Installer™

STEP 1 (OF 2) KEY ACTIVATION

Follow the steps below to activate your new key.  Once you have activated your key, follow STEP 2 (of 2) KEY PAIRING to pair the key to your vehicle.

  1. First, simultaneously press the LOCK and PANIC buttons on the remote. The light under the left bottom button will illuminate and stay on.
  2. Using your ACTIVATION CODE found on the compatibility chart, enter the first digit using the LOCK button, the second digit using the PANIC button, and the third digit using the UNLOCK button.
  3. Now press the LOCK button on the remote. The light will now blink back the ACTIVATION CODE you originally entered.

If this does not match, go back to Step 1 to start over. If the light blinks rapidly, this indicates an error.  Go back to ACTIVATION step 1 and retry the steps using your ACTIVATION Code.

Move on to STEP 2 (of 2) below to PAIR the key to your vehicle. NOTE: You may re-enter activation codes anytime before the key is paired to your vehicle.  After the key is paired to your vehicle, do not attempt to re-enter or change the button code.  This will cause the key to not work.

STEP 2 (OF 2) KEY PAIRING NOTE: Instructions have timing requirements.  If you wait too long between steps, your vehicle’s computer may time out, requiring you to start over.  Once you begin the pairing procedure, move at a quick and even pace. NOTE:  If the EZ Installer is left in the vehicle's on-board diagnostic (OBD) port for more than 5 minutes, an alarm will sound reminding you to remove it. NOTE:  If at any point the EZ Installer continues to beep rapidly, please refer to the FAQ section for more information. NOTE: One working key and the new key should be present during the pairing process.

  1. Find your vehicle’s make, model, and year in the Compatibility Lookup on page 3.
  2. Turn the dial on the EZ Installer to the position listed for your vehicle’s make, model, and year.
  3. Enter the vehicle and ensure all doors are closed.
  4. Begin with the vehicle in PARK and the engine OFF.
  5. Turn hazard lights ON.
  6. Using an existing, working key, start the car.
  7. Remove the security label from the EZ Installer and insert it firmly into the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port located under the dash.
  8. Wait up to 8 seconds and listen for 3 quick beeps from the EZ Installer. NOTE: If you hear a series of more than 3 rapid beeps, an error has occurred. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions to learn more.
  9. Turn the ignition off.
  10. To continue, press and release the EZ Installer button.
  11. Press the UNLOCK button on the new remote 10 times at 1 second intervals. (Tip: You can sync your pressing of the button with the blinking of your hazard lights.) NOTE: If you hear 3 quick beeps from the EZ installer while you press the UNLOCK button, stop and skip to step 12, otherwise continue to step 11.
  12. Wait up to 5 seconds. If you don’t hear 3 quick beeps from the EZ Installer, continue pressing the UNLOCK button on the new remote at 1 second intervals until you hear 3 quick beeps from the EZ installer. NOTE: If you hear a series of more than 3 rapid beeps, an error has occurred. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions to learn more.
  13. Press and release the EZ Installer button to continue.
  14. The EZ Installer will chime when pairing is complete.
  15. Unplug the EZ Installer. If the EZ Installer is left in the OBD port for more than 5 minutes, an alarm will sound, reminding you to remove it.
  16. To pair additional keys, unplug the EZ Installer from the OBD port and reinsert it. Repeat the pairing process for any additional keys, beginning with PAIRING STEP 1.
  17. Test all keys.
  18. Turn hazards off.
