NOTE: The transponder system was only on SHO & LS models in 1997. To program a new key (with no other working keys), take the key code to a locksmith to have a key made or call a locksmith to come to originate a new working key.
- After having a locksmith or qualified professional cut the transponder key, follow these instructions:
- Insert the new key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. ( As far as you can go without a cranking engine )
- The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen minutes.
- When the security light stops flashing, turn the ignition OFF and then back to the ON position.
- The security light will flash for fifteen more minutes.
- When the security light stops flashing, turn the ignition OFF and then back to the ON position.
- The security light will flash for fifteen more minutes.
- After the security light stops flashing the third time turn the key to the OFF position.
- Turn the key to the ON position and the security light should stop flashing indicating the new key has been programmed.
- Start the vehicle to test the key.
NOTE: To program a second (duplicate) key after having a locksmith or qualified professional cut the transponder key, follow these instructions:
- Insert the existing working key in the ignition and turn to the ON position then back to the OFF position.
- Within 5 seconds insert a new key in the ignition and turn to the ON position.
- The security light will light up for 2 seconds to indicate successful Programming.
- Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Start a vehicle to test the new key.
